Thierry Gustot, Principal Investigator of the CHANCE study from CUB Hôpital Erasme – Université libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, kicked off the session with an overview of the study design, demographics, and overall outcomes of the CHANCE study.
Rajiv Jalan, Scientific Coordinator of the CHANCE study from Royal Free Hospital – University College London, UK, presented interim results indicating that current graft allocation policies significantly underestimate the mortality risk for patients with severe ACLF on the transplant waiting list. These findings highlight the need for revised policies to better address the needs of these patients at high risk of short-term mortality.
Next, Cristina Sánchez-Garrido, Head of the Data Management Center at EF CLIF, Spain, emphasized the importance of data integrity in her presentation. She outlined the next critical steps to ensure data quality and completeness, which are essential for the robustness of ongoing and future statistical analyses.
William Bernal, co-Principal Investigator of the CHANCE study at King’s College Hospital, UK, introduced the upcoming phase 2 of the CHANCE study, detailing the design and objectives of the futility study. This phase aims to further investigate the potential outcomes and benefits of liver transplantation in patients with ACLF grade 3.
Finally, Rajiv Jalan discussed plans for future publications and announced a call for ancillary studies. This initiative aims to expand the scope of current research and explore additional aspects of liver transplantation in patients with severe ACLF.
The meeting concluded with a Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage, discuss insights, and address any questions related to the progress of the study and future directions.
The 7th CHANCE Investigator Meeting provided a comprehensive review of the achievements and outlined strategic plans for its next phases. The collective efforts and fruitfull discussions at this meeting emphasize the commitment of all collaborators in the CHANCE study to improving outcomes for patients with severe ACLF worldwide.
