Dr. Cao’s research focuses on uncovering the mechanisms that drive organ failure in cirrhosis and on developing novel therapeutics.

During his time in Barcelona, he will work under the supervision of Prof. Richard Moreau to investigate the Immunopathogenesis of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) through prospective cohorts and multi-omics approaches

Through the Visiting Scientist Program, EF CLIF aims to strengthen its connections with the international chronic liver disease research community, supporting the exchange of expertise and fostering a collaborative environment for advancing research in decompensated cirrhosis and ACLF.

“To me, EF CLIF is a pioneer in the study of acute decompensation of cirrhosis and ACLF. Its rigorous clinical research ethos and groundbreaking insights have propelled the field forward. This is exactly the place I’ve been seeking with everything I need to optimize my research”, said Dr. Cao. “Here I can work directly on EF CLIF projects and, together with their research team, tackle cutting-edge problems. This experience will provide systematic training in clinical research, help shape my future career in this field and contribute to ongoing research on the immunopathogenesis of ACLF”, he added.
