The event was hosted by Professor Richard Moreau, Professor Thierry Gustot, and Professor Jonel Trebicka, who presented ongoing research projects and highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to address unmet medical needs in decompensated cirrhosis and acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF).
Professor Richard Moreau, Director of EF CLIF, gave an in-depth presentation on how we at EF CLIF, through our initiatives and partnerships, are exploring various pathways associated with the pathophysiology of chronic liver disease. He highlighted our robust research infrastructure, which integrates clinical data, self-reported quality of life data, omics data, as well as biological samples for its use in research. Moreau emphasized our commitment to advancing the understanding of chronic liver disease and improve treatment options for patients with ACLF.
Next, Professor Thierry Gustot, Vice-Chair of the EASL-CLIF Consortium Steering Committee, highlighted two major contributions from the interim analysis in the CHANCE study to the EASL Congress 2024. He introduced the Inspiring and Writing Group, an EF CLIF working group established in 2022, which aims to inspire new projects using existing data and samples from previous studies, write manuscripts proposed by EF CLIF senior researchers, and propose new small prospective studies in decompensated cirrhosis. Gustot highlighted one of such ancillary studies showing the predictive value of low-density lipoprotein in hospital readmissions and outcomes following acute decompensation of cirrhosis which was presented at the congress.
Professor Jonel Trebicka, Deputy Director of EF CLIF, concluded the session with insights into three EU-funded projects coordinated by EF CLIF (MICROB-PREDICT, DECISION, and A-TANGO), and their related dissemination activities during the EASL Congress 2024. He explained how these projects are promoting the integration of gut microbiome studies and advanced multi-omics approaches to develop personalized treatment strategies for patients with chronic liver disease.
The EF CLIF team extends deep appreciation to the EASL Congress organizers for their invaluable support and assistance in providing space and promoting the event for this networking session to be successful.
