The symposium opened with remarks from Anna Bosch (General Manager, EF CLIF) and Michela Bertero (Strategy Director, IDIBAPS), who acknowledged the decade-long collaboration between EF CLIF, IDIBAPS and Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, and the renewal of this partnership. Richard Moreau, Director of EF CLIF, provided insights into EF CLIF’s collaborative research efforts, which have facilitated the collection of extensive clinical data and biological samples. These efforts have laid the groundwork for the translational research initiatives led by the Grifols Chair and carried out within the framework of the European Network for Translational Research-Chronic Liver Failure (ENTR-CLIF). Joan Clària, senior consultant at Hospital Clínic of Barcelona and group leader of the Inflammation and Liver Disease group at IDIBAPS, who also serves as Director of the Grifols Chair, reflected on the Grifols Chair Program achievements over the past decade.

Throughout the sessions, internationally renowned experts shared insights in key research areas:

• B cell responses and resolution of inflammation: Andrea Cerutti (ICREA and Hospital del Mar Research Institute, Spain) and Nan Chiang (Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard University, MA, USA) presented new paradigms in B cell dysfunction and resolution of inflammation.
• Emerging trends in omics technologies: Anna Pascual-Reguant (CNAG, Spain) and José M. Mato (CIC bioGUNE, Spain) showcased advancements in single-cell and spatial transcriptomics as well as metabolomics approaches to chronic liver disease.
• Bridging research to therapy: Co-founder of GENFIT Bart Staels (University of Lille, France) shared key lessons from his scientific journey, while Montserrat Costa (Grifols, Spain) presented novel plasma-derived therapies developed by the global healthcare company, which specializes in plasma-derived medicines, clinical diagnostics and biopharmaceutical research.

The symposium emphasized the importance of collaboration between academia, healthcare institutions, and industry. The event also marked the renewal of the research agreement between EF CLIF, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, and IDIBAPS, reinforcing their joint commitment to advancing translational research.

In his closing remarks, Joan Clària thanked all participants, with special recognition for the invited speakers and researchers whose contributions have shaped a decade of impactful discoveries. The symposium reaffirmed the Grifols Chair’s mission to bridge science and patient care by transforming scientific breakthroughs into real-world clinical applications.
