The problem

The role of vessels in rare and frequent liver diseases is incompletely understood.

The approach

My research focuses on the role of vessels in liver diseases. Specifically, I am interested in primary vascular liver diseases (Budd-Chiari syndrome, portal vein thrombosis and intrahepatic non-cirrhotic portal hypertension), as well as in vascular involvement in common liver diseases development and complications (extracellular vesicles, coagulation, endothelial cells).

Main discoveries and innovations

  • Identification of the utility of plasma extracellular vesicles as biomarkers in patients with chronic liver diseases
  • Discovery of the role of extracellular vesicles as contributors to portal hypertension and to coagulation imbalance in patients with cirrhosis
  • Identification of non-invasive tools to better diagnose porto-sinusoidal vascular disorder
