The Executive Team is responsible for the overall management of the Foundation and for the leadership of its staff and partners. It works to deliver on the strategic plan for ongoing studies and projects and is responsible for the financial sustainability of the Foundation.
Director
Richard Moreau was appointed Director of EF CLIF in January 2024. He is founding member of the EASL-CLIF Consortium (2009), former member of the EASL-CLIF Conosortium Steering Committee (2009–2018); former Deputy Director of the Grifols Chair (2015–2021); former Honorary Director of the Grifols Chair (2022–2024); former Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of EF CLIF (2021–2024).
Since September 2018, he is Emeritus Senior Scientist at INSERM, Paris, France; he is former Senior Scientist (Directeur de Recherche de Classe Exceptionnelle (2013)) at the INSERM. He is former Deputy Director of the Center for Research on Inflammation (2014–2018); former Director of Center of Biomedical Research Bichat-Beaujon (2013); former Head of Successive Research teams on pathophysiology and treatment of cirrhosis appointed by INSERM and University Paris-Cité (2005–2018). He is former Co-Chair (with Prof. Shiv K. Sarin) of the international Indo-French Laboratory for the Study of Advanced Liver Diseases endorsed by the INSERM, the University Paris-Cité in France, and the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi, India (1993–2022).
Moreau obtained his MD degree in 1983 at the University of Paris, France, and completed his residency in the departments of Internal Medicine, Diabetology, Nephrology and Intensive Care at Île-de-France hospitals (1978–1982), where we was a full-time physician in Intensive Care Units (1983–1996). He is former Consultant in Hepatology, co-responsible of the Hemodynamic Laboratory of the Liver Unit at Hôpital Beaujon AP-HP, Clichy, France (1996–2023).
He served as Special Section Editor (2020–2021), Senior Editor (2015–2019) and Associate Editor (2010–2014) for of Journal of Hepatology; and Associate Editor for Liver International (2007–2009). He is active member of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL), French Association for the Study of the Liver (AFEF), and Club Francophone pour l’Etude de l’Hypertension Portale.
General Manager
Anna Bosch holds a PhD degree in molecular genetics by the University of Barcelona, Spain. She conducted her postdoctoral studies on diabetes translational research at University of Barcelona and the Tumor and Biology Center at the Karolinska Institute, Sweden. In 2007, she joined IDIBAPS as Coordinator of the Metabolic Disease Biobank. She contributed to the creation of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona-IDIBAPS Biobank and was appointed Manager of the Tumor Bank, Brain Bank, and DNA Bank. She was also the Coordinator of the IDIBAPS core facilities: genomics, bioinformatics and biostatistics, flow cytometry, MRI neuroimaging, and biosafety level 3 laboratory. In 2011, she founded InBioMotion. Bosch joined EF CLIF as General Manager in 2018.
Director of the Grifols Chair and Head of Translational Operations
Joan Clària is Senior Consultant at the Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Service of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, group leader of the Inflammation and Liver Disease group at the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS), and Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Barcelona, Spain. He is a clinical biochemist specialist and conducted his post-doctoral studies as a Fulbright scholar at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, MA, USA (1993–1996) and was appointed Visiting Professor at the University of North Carolina, NC USA (2001), The Jackson Laboratory, ME, USA (2007) and Harvard Institutes of Medicine, MA, USA (2010–2011). He is currently Associate Editor of Frontiers in Inflammation and Frontiers in Immunology, and has served as editor of Journal of Immunology – section Innate Immunity, and has been a member of the Editorial Board of Gut. He has received the Albus Grifols Award (2017) and the Young Investigator International Aspirin Award (1996). Clària serves as Director of the Grifols Chair at EF CLIF, Head of Translational Operations, and Coordinator of the European Network for Translational Research-Chronic Liver Failure (ENTR-CLIF).
Head of Clinical Operations
Javier Fernandez is a Consultant in Hepatology and the Head of the Liver Intensive Care Unit in the Institute of Metabolic and Digestive Diseases at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Spain. He holds a degree in Medicine from the University of the Basque Country, Spain, and he specialized in Gastroenterology in 1998 at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. In 2006, he obtained his PhD degree by the University of Barcelona, Spain. He is an Associate Editor for Journal of Hepatology and a member of the Spanish Society for the Study of the Liver (AEEH), the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), and the American Association for the Study of the Liver (AASLD). Currently, Fernández serves as the Head of Clinical Operation at EF CLIF. He is a member of the EASL-CLIF Consortium Steering Committee and was a former member of the Executive Scientific Committee at EF CLIF.
Head of the Data Management Center
Cristina Sánchez-Garrido is Economist by training, and holds a Master’s degree in Financial Accounting and Controlling with 14-year experience as Chief Operations Officer for a Clinical Research Organization, where she supported clinical studies for a range of pathologies. She worked as an external provider for EF CLIF from 2014 to 2018 and joined EF CLIF as Data Manager and Sample Manager in 2018. Sánchez-Garrido was appointed Head of the Data Management Center in 2021.
